James Beddie was born in 1902. He graduated from Harvard in 1928. After 8 years of teaching, he was appointed to the State Department. In 1942, he joined the Office of Naval Intelligence, serving in occupied Germany. After the war he returned to the State Dept. and then served as director of the Berlin Document Center. The archival material from the BDC was used in providing evidence during the Nürnberg trials. He returned to teaching in 1962 and then retired to Santa Barbara, where he died in ...
